PROJECT

SAND5G

About the project

5G -and beyond- networks provide a strong foundation for EU’s digital transformation and are becoming one of the Union’s key assets to compete in the global market. Since 5G (and its future evolutions, 6G etc.) offers the fabric that connects EU systems and services, critical infrastructures, economy, etc., it is imperative to focus on the security, privacy, and trust challenges that surface due to their open, disaggregate and interoperable underlying technology solutions. Securing 5G networks and the services running on top of them requires high quality technical security solutions and also strong collaboration at the operational level.

All stakeholders (operators, vertical infrastructures, national authorities and public bodies, security experts, research community, etc.) must work together to build robust defenses and establish cooperation channels and practices for preparedness, incident handling, response and mitigation actions etc. The main aim of SAND5G is to deliver a risk and impact assessment platform for 5G to support a) 5G stakeholders secure their systems and services b) National Authorities and Member States’ Regulators overview the security status and applied measures that implement their national cybersecurity strategies and legislation, in line with European 5G cybersecurity policies and proposed EU toolbox for 5G security.

Project Objectives

[1]

Build a risk and impact assessment platform aligned with the EU toolbox for 5G security to ensure high levels of security and compliance with EU and national policies and legislation.

[2]

Support National Authorities and Regulators implement of their national cybersecurity strategies and legislation, in line with European 5G cybersecurity policy.

[3]

Support knowledge and capacity building for relevant 5G stakeholders and their users.

[4]

Validate the SAND5G platform across diverse cases and scenarios including 5G infrastructures, services, regulators, authorities etc.

[5]

Engage the 5G EU industry and policy makers and guarantee sustainability of all developed solutions, tools, and training activities, beyond the end of the project.

p-NET's Role

P-NET’s main role in SAND5G is to orchestrate the Knowledge and Capacity Building activity (Lead beneficiary of Task T3.3) which targets at improving the skills, awareness, collaboration of the overall EU 5G ecosystem. Training activities and material will be designed and developed and will be specialized on the one hand towards vertical services stakeholders and the general public and on the other hand towards technical personnel of 5G infrastructures and relevant National Authorities. P-NET will not only connect the various topics of this project (5G, security, knowledge and capacity building, training etc.) but will also act as the point of interest where the project will engage with the national and EU 5G communities to a) receive valuable input when building its solutions and b) feedback during the validation phase (Lead beneficiary of Task T5.2 on Impact creation, exploitation and standardization activities).
