PROJECT

X-TREME 6G

About the project

X-TREME 6G is a HORIZON-JU-SNS-2024-STREAM-C Research and Innovation Action. The project will provide a foundational open microelectronics platform in Europe with the objective to create and design key disruptive next generation chiplets and chipsets for 6G use cases. The idea is to break-up the full potential of best-in-class Silicon BiCMOS, InP and heterogeneous 3D integration for high capacity radio access technologies such as wireless back-hauling at sub-TeraHertz frequencies, Joint Communication And Sensing, Non Terrestrial Networks and Network as a Sensor. The project involves 19 partners and has a total budget of 10M€.

Industry-led Collaboration

A unique industry-driven consortium to create Europe's open microelectronics platform for 6G chiplets and chipsets.

Sustainability & Long-term Impact

Establishing a sustainable open platform for 6G, extending beyond the SNS program for lasting impact.

Collaboration with Chips JU

Accelerating joint initiatives between SNS and Chips JU pilot lines to advance 6G microelectronics.

Empowering European Industry

Strengthening the microelectronics supply chain and democratizing the 6G ecosystem to reduce reliance on hyperscalers.

Project Objectives

[1]

Develop and deploy the Microelectronic LightHouse (MLH) based on new SiGe B55X and 0.5μm InP pilot lines to release latest generations chipsets and develop chiplets using new 3D integration technique for 6G technologies.

[2]

Design and Fabricate power efficient microelectronic building blocks for 6G experimental infrastructures and use cases demonstrators.

[3]

Develop and integrate the multi-site X-TREME 6G test beds experimental open framework platforms, which incorporates the newly developed 6G disruptive microelectronic technologies and solutions.

[4]

Validate and demonstrate relevant 6G use cases including Sub-Terahertz wireless X-hauling, JCAS, NaS and NTN.

[5]

Contribute through the developed microelectronic solutions to relevant emerging 6G KPIs and KVIs in strong collaboration with running SNS Stream-B programs and enable the hosting of additional 6G use cases validation through open calls and cooperation with Stream-D projects.

[6]

Establish federative methodologies to establish a bridge between SNS JU and Chips-JU ecosystems for the benefit of all relevant stakeholders.

[7]

Develop and deploy an open full stack blueprint 6G experimental architecture for future microelectronics oriented testbeds.

p-NET's Role

p-NET plays a pivotal role in the X-TREME 6G project by leading the transformation of its existing Patras5G infrastructure into an open, modular end-to-end 6G experimental testbed. This upgraded infrastructure will serve as a key enabler for the X-TREME 6G platform, supporting advanced experimentation with 6G KPIs and demonstrating the feasibility of achieving critical societal objectives through next-generation technologies. p-NET aims to enhance the openness and modularity of the platform, facilitating integration with other systems and increasing accessibility for vertical applications.

Through its work in Task 5.5, p-NET will implement a framework that allows for the deployment and interoperability of diverse system components, showcasing how these elements can be hosted within its infrastructure. This initiative not only expands the scope of experimentation but also supports training, onboarding, and the dissemination of methodologies via Task 6.4, ultimately accelerating the adoption and impact of 6G solutions.
